My Status as an Assassin Bla bla bla bla bla
Watched the first couple episodes of My Status as an Assassin Obviously Exceeds the Hero’s. Yeah, it’s anime, and yeah, it’s isekai. Whoophoo! I’m actually really surprised the title isn’t longer, like some of those Light Novels called “I had an Orgasm and ate some salad but then the alien lord said no you can’t have any more orgasms so I stopped eating the salad”.
My Status as an Assassin Obviously Exceeds the Hero’s is pretty cool in that it’s completely unpretentious. It just wants to tell you a fantasy tale with all the tropes you already know. No innovations. No experiments. No weird twists. It’s just your nice neighborhood narrative about the elf sidekick and demon lords and talking cats. Nice!
Of course main-protagonist-guy is super-powerful, and you’ve got all the video-gamey features like a visual UI that shows all your XP and special abilities and whatnot.
The story itself is good, nothing too exciting. Servicable. This is the kind of show you turn on when you’re already depleted, and you just want to have a good time. People have been saying it’s reminiscent of old-school 90s fantasy anime, but my historical knowledge is limited when it comes to Japanese cartoons.
