Birth of a Newsletter - R30 Issue #1
I was doing Chess Puzzles while listening to France Musique, and after a while a show started that was dedicated to variations on Pete Seeger’s Where Have All the Flowers Gone. Read more in this week’s edition of the R30 newsletter.
One version in particular struck me with its haunting beauty, Marlene Dietrich’s German rendition called “Sag mir wo die Blumen sind”. Timely lyrics. At some point I switched to France Musique’s dedicated Soundtrack channel, Radio Musiques Films. This led me down the soundtrack rabbit hole and I started listening to Chris Boardman’s Raw Deal OST.
The next day I woke up and decided to do nothing but play Chess Puzzles again, this time listening to Kenneth Hite’s and Robin D. Laws’ podcast. They talked about many things while I failed to move the pieces in the right way. One of them was about Polish theatre guru Jerzy Grotowski, who experimented with theatre anthropology? Or something. Sounded interesting.
Afterwards, while browsing Mastodon, I caught a link to Mathematical Thinking Isn’t What You Think It Is. I scanned it briefly, and forgot about it, so my view of maths stays the same - for now (bewilderment?).
Later that evening, I got curious about old BMWs and found an armoured E46 330i. From 2001. For €33k. Not bad. Not bad? I don’t know, I’d buy it. Can’t get shot, old BMW means no electro crap, and this model has less than 10k kilometres. Talking about cars, that new Jaguar ad, eh? I’d say that whoever designed it really likes Cyberpunk.
So that’s it for this week, just a quick one to see if I like this.
BTW, this newsletter was originally called ‘Rowini’s Refile’ because I dump all my findings in a file called ‘refile.org’. At a later date, I will refile noteworthy entries using org-roam, giving them appropriate tags and whatnot. Now I’ve changed it to R30 because that sounds snappier. We’ll see.
