Bombed Building (2025-01-18)

Pixel art painting inspired by pictures of Gaza and Ukraine. It’s a bombed building. Surrounded by pink undamaged (sorta) ones. With some mist in the background.

Temple Mount Cat (2022-04-18)

Cat on the Olive Mount in Jerusalem. I guess I called it ‘Temple Mount Cat’ because it sounds cooler. But actually this kitty was crawling up an olive tree on top of the other Mount. Nice scene. Afternoon light. Serene.

Die Steine liegen schlafen (2022-04-04)

This is based off a photograph I took in Jerusalem in 2014. People holding a funeral service at the graveyard near the Olive Mount. The text is some poem I wrote on the fly. When I painted it. See below for translation.

Weinberg (2022-01-27)

Vineyard in Lower Austria, where I lived at the time. Nice, serene. Not too unhappy with this one. Figured a wine-maker could use it for promotional material. You still can! Just contact me.

Aktien 2 (2022-01-03)

Digital painting showing a korean empress super-imposed over a street in Seoul. Was it an empress? Don’t remember, I couldn’t use the picture of a K-Pop idol, which is what I originally wanted to do. First time experimenting with text. The face kinda looks like mine.

Lille 1916 (2021-11-22)

Digital painting showing a bombed out Lille in 1916. During World War I, in France. Gummy worms and Lego blocks complement the picture. Kind of frantic. Aggressive colors. Not sure the gummy worms worked. Also the treeline in the back doesn’t stand out.

That’s so LA (2021-10-18)

Digital painting of a woman standing in front of her house, in Los Angeles. Next to her, a Corvette. And a tiny Corvette. For her kid? Who knows. Also palm trees. Man, I’ve never been to LA. I heard it kinda sucks.

Burger Rose (2021-10-12)

Digital painting showing a rose melted into a burger. That’s why it’s called Burger Rose. Just a rose hanging out, a burger within its being. Contemplating life. McDonald’s. Food.

Lockheed (2021-09-29)

Digital painting using a collage of pictures for reference. Afghanistan, a nude woman on the phone, cityscapes, poppy fields, a picture of an aircraft. What does it all mean? Only the artist knows.

Dummy (2021-09-20)

Digital painting of a bunch of dummies in a test setting inside an aircraft. A public domain image was used for reference. No clue where I got it from. Maybe if you reverse-image-search it, you’ll find the original.

Haile Selassie (2021-09-13)

Digital painting based on a photograph of an M4 tank getting knocked down somewhere in Guam.

Haile Selassie (2021-09-10)

Digital painting based on the photograph of Haile Selassie in Dambacha Fort, 1941. I continue the same technique first used with ‘Mamoru Shigemitsu’: Using a public domain image for reference, I zoom in as far as possible and trace the abstract shapes. It’s basically glorified drawing by numbers.

Haile Selassie

From Wikipedia

The Emperor of Abyssinia (modern day Ethiopia) with Brigadier Daniel Arthur Sandford on his left and Colonel Wingate on his right, in Dambacha Fort after it had been captured, 15 April 1941.

Mamoru Shigemitsu (2021-09-09)

Digital painting based on the photograph of Mamoru Shigemitsu signing the Instrument of Surrender, officially ending World War II. I started with digital art because I was looking for a replacement to my Crack/MMO-addiction. First time using ‘Rowini30’ as an alias.

Mamoru Shigemitsu

From Wikipedia:

Japanese Foreign Minister Mamoru Shigemitsu signs the Instrument of Surrender on behalf of the Japanese Government, on board USS Missouri (BB-63), 2 September 1945. Lieutenant General Richard K. Sutherland, U.S. Army, watches from the opposite side of the table. Foreign Ministry representative Toshikazu Kase is assisting Mr. Shigemitsu.

Tear Gas Grenade (2016-06-06)

I spray-painted a Dragon Tree on an oil drum, in Gran Canaria. Using tape to create the silhouette. Fun times. Nice island. Hope they didn’t build the highway around the island after all.

Tear Gas Grenade (2014-12-18)

A painting of a tear gas grenade on the wall of a room in the Ramallah hostel. That’s a poem by Rumi written next to it. We got gassed by the IDF the day before, so I thought this was a fitting motive. It happened at the infamous Friday Protest, and one of the canadian guests even got jailed. Fun times!

Pale Nites Palestine (2014-12-17)

Mural of impressions of Ramallah, painted on the wall outside a hostel in Ramallah. The guys who own it are really good cooks, I hope you check them out! Fantastic food. The title is an anagram of Palestine.

Fish on Ice (2014-12-12)

Mural I did in the al-Bireh refugee camp in Ramallah, Palestine. The artist living nearby liked to paint fish, so I figured I paint fish as well? Not sure how he felt about that. But it doesn’t look too bad.

Cows of Samar (2013-11-03)

Mural I did of some cows at the dairy farm on Kibbutz Samar, Israel. Middle of the Arava desert. Hot. Sun beating down. But the artistic spirit persevered! I hope the cows enjoy it as much as I did creating it.
