Give me some time

It’s been a while, my friends. I’ve been writing poems, snorting the pixels off my latest artwork… that is yet to be finished. Meanwhile, here are some media recommendations.

The Agency

Spy thriller I watched on a whim, because there was nothing else on. Stars Michael Fassbinder (or Fassbender, one of them is the fat German guy) as a CIA operative that is stationed in London, for some reason. Like, the CIA has a whole office building in London. If that makes you go “what?”, so did I. I even checked Wikipedia if there was some precedent to this, maybe during the Cold War there was an office there or something. But no. Anyway, this isn’t so great, but also not bad. Based on a French series that I watched briefly (out of curiosity), but the French one lacks the million dollars of polish the American version provides. Richard Gere is here, too! 3 out of 5 stars.

Widow’s Bay

Spooky horror comedy show set in New England. On an island. Very Lovecraftian, with a town beset by horror, a sea that kills, and strange rituals to keep the evil at bay. It’s good. I enjoyed it. Good acting, funny writing, ocassionally scary stuff. Good! Five out of five stars.

Jujutsu Kaisen, Season 2

Wow, I mean is this the best Anime, or what? Finally finished it. Had to change my pants twice because I couldn’t keep it together. Top notch animation, great storytelling, perfect. 10 out of 5 stars.

Ken Burns’ The American Revolution

Top-notch documentary, finished two episodes so far. With each episode being ~2 hours long, six in total. Great narration by various actors, it’s like half of Hollywood showed up. Then there’s the great compilation of the various artworks and maps created during the period, excellent to look at. Some re-enactments as well, but very sparse. Great show. 5 out of 5 stars.

Ludwig’s Streamer U classes

Streamer Ludwig (of Twitch fame) created a series of lessons for Streamer U, explaining the ins and outs of being a streamer. Very informative! With plenty of numbers and some life advice. Check it out on Youtube. Streamer U was some event by Kai Cenat, mainly to promote upcoming streamers. They could take classes and film each other farting on pillows, basically.

Volkswagen ID 3 Neo

I used to think the VW ID 3 looked a bit shit, but the new one’s got me looking. They got rid of those horrid capacitive touch buttons on the steering wheel, and cleaned up the interior. The exterior as well. Looks good now. And has a +600 km range. Although, I don’t trust these range estimates. You need to drive like Grandma during summer (because of the battery temperature) to reach those.

Obsession

Still haven’t seen it.

World War II - Week by Week

Finished the World War I - Week by Week series on Youtube a while ago, and now started with the WWII pendant. Very horrible. I mean, what did I expect. Did not know the pivotal role the British air force played in preventing a Nazi invasion.

The gratitude of every home in our Island, in our Empire, and indeed throughout the world, except in the abodes of the guilty, goes out to the British airmen who, undaunted by odds, unwearied in their constant challenge and mortal danger, are turning the tide of world war by their prowess and by their devotion. Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few.

- Winston Churchill

Heidegger

Continued my journey through Heideggerian thought space thanks to Herbert Dreyfus’s lecture series on Youtube. Different modes of being, each with a different temporal mode, or something. Interestingly enough this week I listened to a History of philosophy without any gaps episode about Peter Damian. He was a medieval scholar who explored the universality of God, as in “Can God undo events of the past?” Need to read more about that guy’s idea on time, I think St Augustine had some thoughts on time as well.

Music

No new albums to speak of, but if you’re looking for inspiration, check out RAI 3’s Battiti, a good show with some Italian talking but also plenty of new music. Arrivederci!
